Recreation This Week! is a weekly e-newsletter compiled by the Recreation Department for the community of Mammoth Lakes.  In it you will find a weekly sampling of our boundless recreational opportunities in one of the world's most spectacular playgrounds.   

Whether you're looking for family fun, learning new things, challenging your endurance or simply rejuvenating the soul, we hope you'll take advantage of what awaits you in Mammoth Lakes.

Parks and Recreation News…

  • Community Tennis Courts
    • Adult Drop-In Clinics are available for intermediate and advanced adults Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:30-5:30, $10.
    • FREE Sunday Social, every Sunday from 9:00 to 12:00.
  • Registration is now open for Hot Shots Basketball! This program is open to all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and will teach them basic basketball skills. We will be meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7:00 PM, November 2, 2017 – January 25th, 2018 at the Mammoth Middle School. It will include one month of clinics followed by almost two months of league play and costs just $41 for early registration.
  • Toddler Time is back at the Community Center! Meeting every Tuesday from 9:30-11:00 AM. Each 4-week session is $48 with a 50% sibling discount.
  • Friday, October 27th is the Halloween Party and Haunted Roller Rink, a Mammoth tradition! Fun for the whole family, this party on wheels is just $5 and includes carnival style games and prizes, costume contest, and skate rentals while they last. Cakewalk and concessions extra. Non-skating adults are free and other wheeled devices are welcome. So mark your calendars, plan your costume and join us on Friday, October 27th for some spooky fun!


Around Town

  • Downtown Bishop Fall Fling, Friday, September 22nd from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Live entertainment provided as well as a raffle to win $250 at a chamber-member business of your choice.
  • Ring in Fall with Oktoberfest in the Village! Starting Friday, September 22 and continuing through Sunday, September 24th this festival has live music, food, activities for the kids and of course beer! Take in some Bavarian culture right here in the Eastern Sierras.
  • Mammoth Storytelling Festival at the Hayden Cabin, Saturday, September 23rd from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Complimentary sweets and treats during intermission. Come sit by Mammoth Creek, take in the view of the Sherwins and listen to some stories about the Eastern Sierras.
  • In celebration of Child Passenger Safety Week, the Mammoth Police Department is offering free car seat inspections this Saturday, September 23rd from 10 am until 1 pm. Officers will be on hand to ensure your car seat is installed correctly, meets federal safety guidelines and educate the public on how to choose the correct car seat. In addition, they will be handing out free bike helmets while supplies last. 
  • MMSO’s Annual Sports Swap is Sunday, September 24th at the Mountain Center in the Village. Clothes, gear and more at discounted prices!  
  • Pabanamanina Pow Wow & California Indian Days will be held Friday, September 22nd through Sunday, September 24th. Fun for the whole family with a parade, traditional dancing, hand games, arts & crafts, music food and more.
  • Gym to Crag Transition Weekend continues for one more session: September 23rd-24th. Take your rock climbing skills to the next level!
  • Ambush at the Lake fishing derby continues at Convict Lake through November 15th.
