First United Flight Lands at Bishop Airport! On December 19, 2021 our region celebrated the first commercial flights into the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport in Bishop (BIH) with a champagne toast. These flights are the culmination of years of dedication from our partners to bring more consistent and reliable air service to the Eastern Sierra and move us toward the goal of expanding flight offerings to benefit business owners, guests and locals. The event included partners from the FAA, Mammoth Mountain, Inyo County, the City of Bishop and the Town of Mammoth Lakes. Daily seasonal service into Bishop via United is available from Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Shuttle and rental car services from Bishop to Mammoth Lakes will be available to visitors on each flight (including those that are delayed). Advanced Air is offering regional service to and from Burbank (BUR), Hawthorne (HHR) and Carlsbad (CLD) airports. Advanced Air flights also have the advantage of being able to land in Bishop, Calif. (35 miles away) in the event of inclement weather in Mammoth Lakes.

Town Implements Pilot Program to Assist MotoristsDuring the record setting December snowstorms, the Town implemented a pilot program to assist stranded motorists. Staff from Engineering and Finance worked alongside Public Works and Police Officers to provide assistance to stuck or stranded motorists. The team responded to over 100 incidents that included digging out vehicles, performing tows, installing chains and educating our visitors on driving in snow. The team not only assisted our many visitors get out of trouble, but it allowed our snow removal operators to stay on their routes, reduced police officer intervention and kept roads clear for regular traffic and other emergency response. Way to go team!

Parks and Rec. Temporarily Postpones Indoor Programs Due to the recent dramatic surge of COVID-19 cases in our community, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily postpone our indoor programming for the next two weeks. The health and well-being of our participants and staff is our top priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these challenging times and hope to resume programming as conditions allow. Programs impacted by this postponement include: Coed Adult Indoor Soccer League, Coed Adult Indoor Volleyball League, Hot Shots Basketball, and the new Baked Cooking Classes. Outdoor programs (Adult hockey, Curling League and lessons) will continue at this time, however, we ask that you do not participate if you are symptomatic or have been exposed to someone COVID-19 positive in your family or household. Parks and Recreation will monitor the current situation and respond accordingly. We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning & How To Prevent it From Happening To You This WinterEvery winter over 430 people die from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. When the temperature drops and furnaces, fireplaces and space heaters are used for heating there is a risk of CO exposure. CO is considered a “silent killer” because it is an invisible and odorless gas. The Town and MLFPD would like to remind residents to take actions to prevent injury or death from CO poisoning. Be SnowSmart this Winter! Be SnowSmart in Mammoth Lakes by following a few simple winter safety tips. During heavy snowfall, please stay off the roads to let our snow removal operators clear the roads and sidewalks. Don’t put on chains when you have to – put on chains before you need them. Stopping in roadways is dangerous and is to be avoided. We recommend you park your vehicle (off the roadway and behind the orange snow stakes) and take the bus. The FREE Red Line operates 7-days a week from 7:00am until 5:30pm with service from Snowcreek Athletic Club to the Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge. The Town clears several miles of sidewalks for your safety. Do not walk on the streets with vehicles and plows as they will have trouble seeing you and do not walk in-front of snow removal equipment. Click here to learn more and call 800-427-ROAD for current chain control restrictions or road conditions, listen to KMMT 106.5, Sierra Wave 92.5 or KIBS 100.7 or look for chain control signs throughout town.
