The Mammoth Lakes Police Department was awarded a $40,748.00 Grant from the State of California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle (OHMVR) Division for the Grant Project Performance Period of January 1 - December 31, 2025. With this year’s grant award funds, MLPD plans to reimburse Officers’ OHV/OSV patrol time plus administrative costs, to pay for a year of storage area fees, to cover a year of subscriptions for the Garmin devices, and to cover equipment use expenses such as routine maintenance and fuel for the Polaris RZR and snowmobiles. Additionally, winter gloves will be purchased for OSV patrols.
MLPD’s Off Highway Vehicle program was launched in 2021 with its first California OHMVR Grant award. The goal of the program is to provide safety and education for both residents and visitors and to reduce intrusions into the wilderness and other protected areas. OHV Law Enforcement protects public safety by patrolling trails that are shared with other outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Officers enforce speeding, driving while impaired, green sticker registration, encroachment/trespass issues, offer accident support, monitor dispersed camping, and more. MLPD continues to support our Allied Agency’s OHV programs, which are critical to the safety and education of the public and off-road enthusiasts.
